David M. Garner, Ph.D.,

President, Eating Attitudes, LLC

Dr. Garner is the senior author of the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26) and is the President of Eating Attitudes LLC which hosts the EAT-26 website (www.EAT-26.com). The EAT-26 is probably the most widely used standardized self-report measure of symptoms and concerns characteristic of eating disorders. The EAT-26 is a refinement of the original EAT-40 that was first published in 1979 and used in one of the first studies to examine socio-cultural factors in the development and maintenance of eating disorders. Since that time, the test has been translated into many different languages and used in hundreds of studies. The original publication (Garner, D.M. & Garfinkel, P.E., 1979, Psychological Medicine9, 273-279.) and the subsequent publication describing the refinement of the test (Garner et al., 1982, Psychological Medicine12, 871-878) are the 3rd and 4th on the list of the 10 most cited articles in the history of the journal Psychological Medicine.

Dr. Garner is a certified life coach with a PhD in clinical psychology from York University in Toronto, Canada, Dr. Garner has a background in research that includes studies supported by the McLaughlin Fund, the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry, the Ontario Mental Health Foundation, and Health and Welfare Canada. David M. Garner, PhD, is particularly well known for his research on subjects related to eating disorders.

Over the course of a career that spans more than 40 years, David Garner has held academic appointments with multiple institutions of higher learning, including as a tenured professor at the University of Toronto, and Michigan State University's department of psychiatry. He was also a resident site supervisor with the University of Toledo Medical College.
